After church this week, Joyce sent me a note thanking me for our summer discussion on prayer and shared this beautiful idea:
I have found for me that I need to "put myself in the place of least resistance" as James Finley says, for my prayer to capture and hold my attention. For me, the singing bowl chime has become a gentle call to prayer as I listen to the chime fade away and settle my heart and mind, taking deep breaths to calm my spirit. I put it near my balcony door, and plan to use it just before I step outside in the evening where I can be part of the settling down of creation. I love the Benedictine rule of looking back at my day and recognizing God's presence throughout the day. Thanks for the reminder to be intentional!
After sharing her note, I asked if Joyce would send me a picture of her bowl chime. Isn't it lovely?
